Here comes Indy!

Well, well, well.

I had just finished talking with my roomie about the frequency of blockbuster movie series in Hollywood. After raising our voices and debating a little bit, we came to the mutual conclusion that a "true" blockbuster series (e.g. Matrix, Star Wars, Lord Of Rings, Indiana Jones, and to a lesser extent, Terminator) come out once in every five years.

And guess what!

One of my all-time favorite movie series is coming out after more than 10 years of hibernation. Today, I found an article saying that George Lucas and Steve Spielberg just signed a contract with a new script writer to write the fourth Indiana Jones movie!

More than pure entertainment, the movie series has meant so much to me on a very personal level. When I was growing up in Korea, I used to watch a lot of American movies, and Indiana Jones 3 was one of the most captivating movies I have ever seen, even to this date. I still vividy remember waiting in line for more than two hours to watch the film during the spring of 1989 someplace in Seoul, and it turned out to be the last movie I saw in Korea before I came to the States at the age of 13 in early 1990. Thus, the movie, in a way, has symbolized the bridge between my upbringing period in Korea and my formative years in the States, the brige between my youth and my adolescene years, and the bridge between the conservative tradition I had tied to uphold and openminded curiosity I have since then tried to embrace.

Perhaps I could write something about Indy for the celebrity essay of Chicago application, should I become inclined to apply there.

I am so excited at the news that this movie is finally being made after so many years.

Don't get me wrong, I just love the blockbuster movies you mentioned, but I am of the opinion that they need to let sleeping dogs lie!

I so loved Star Wars as a kid, when George Lucas decided to make some more money by beating a dead horse I was horrified. The new crap he has come up with is not a patch on the old stuff. He has commited the ultimate sacrilage by actualy digitally remastering the golden Star Wars and adding those stupid special effects. :(

I just hope he doesn't destroy Indiana Jones for me the way he did Star Wars.

IMHO, Lucas reminds me of that slide rule company that invested millions in coming up with a better slide rule to compete with the first calculators. His time as a great story teller has passed, and there is nothing he has left in his bag of tricks.

Haha, so that makes two of us here who hates the new Star Wars movies.

Truthfully, I have not and am not a big fan of George Lucas. I like Steven Spielberg much better.

The last time I heard about Indiana Jones 4 was a few years back, and I haven't heard a thing since until recently. I am just excited!
